Mr. Haroon Shaikh
President
Mr. Haroon Shaikh, CPA, is the founder and Chairman of HRSS, LLP, the largest South Asian CPA firm in the U.S. A University of Texas graduate, he began his career with Deloitte and KPMG. He has held leadership roles at Central Bancorp, Harris County, Houston Sports Authority, and Houston Business Development. Active in the community, he has led the Pakistan and South Asian Chambers of Commerce and serves on multiple boards. He currently hosts ‘BizTalk’ on TV One USA.

Dr. Nasir Rashid
Secretary
Dr. Nasir Rashid, a neonatologist based in Maryland, is a 1993 graduate of SMC/JSUMANA in Karachi. He moved to the United States in 2002, where he and his wife, also a physician, are raising their three children. His connection to SIUT began in 1994 when he first met Dr. Adib Rizvi. From his student days, he recalls SIUT as a beacon of exceptional, compassionate care serving patients across Pakistan — a mission he remains deeply passionate about supporting.

Mr. Qaisar Mahdi
Treasurer
Mr. Qaisar Mahdi is a seasoned finance professional who has served as VP of Finance & Acquisitions at Camden Holding Inc. and Camden Hospitality Group since 2001. At SIUTNA, he provides expertise in financial planning, budgeting, internal controls, and information systems. Actively engaged in fundraising, he works closely with individuals, philanthropic networks, faith-based groups, and community organizations to advance SIUTNA’s mission.

Dr. Irfan Rizvi
Member
Dr. Irfan Rizvi is a Colon and Rectal Surgeon with over 20 years of experience and a graduate of Aga Khan University. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Formerly on faculty at the University of Rochester, he now teaches at the Uniformed Services University and practices in Washington, DC. His professional interests span surgical innovation and healthcare economics.

Dr. Zeba Vanek
Member
Dr. Zeba Fatima Vanek is a neurologist specializing in Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders. A graduate of DMC with a doctorate in neurology, she trained at Queen Square, USC, and Baylor. She spent 19 years as an Associate Professor of Neurology at UCLA and is board-certified in both Neurology and Psychiatry. Following the 2005 Pakistan earthquake, she founded SCIPPER to support paralyzed survivors. A longtime supporter of SIUT, Dr. Vanek is also deeply committed to advancing humanitarian causes worldwide.

Dr. Saima Zafar, MD, MBA

Dr. Saima Zafar, MD, MBA, is a Board-Certified Cardiologist and Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine with nearly three decades of clinical experience. She earned her medical degree from King Edward Medical College in Lahore and an MBA from the University of Iowa, followed by advanced training in cardiovascular disease in Washington, D.C. A recognized leader, she has served as President of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent in North America (APPNA) and as a member of the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board.

Mr. Meraj Nazar
President Emeritus
During his 7 years as President and Secretary, Mr. Nazar led SIUT North America to achieve a tenfold increase in fundraising and successfully finance major capital projects at SIUT.
Before his presidency, he served as CEO and Secretary of the Board. An engineer by training, he holds a Master’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, a Bachelor’s from NED University, Karachi, and an Executive MBA from Golden Gate University, San Francisco.
Mr. Nazar retired as President in October 2024 and was honored as President Emeritus in March 2025.

Ms. Sarah Waheed Sher
Executive Director
Sarah Waheed Sher serves as Executive Director of SIUT North America, bringing extensive experience from the non-profit sector and international organizations. A Rhodes Scholar, she holds a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University and an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Passionate about social justice and health equity, she helped design and publish the United Nations’ Access to Opportunities Framework for ICTs. Based in Houston with her husband and two children, Sarah is dedicated to advancing SIUTNA’s mission of free and dignified healthcare for all.

Syed Mohammad
Shabbar Zaidi
Syed Mohammad Shabbar Zaidi is a distinguished Chartered Accountant who most recently served as the 26th Chairman of Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). He previously held office as a provincial minister in the Sindh Government during the 2013 caretaker setup. A lifelong professional with A.F. Ferguson & Co., a member firm of PwC since 1969, Mr. Zaidi has also served as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (2005–2006). A widely respected voice on taxation and fiscal policy, he is a frequent presence in Pakistani media and the author of several books on the national economy.

Munir A. Malik
Munir A. Malik is one of Pakistan’s most respected legal minds, widely recognized for his integrity and leadership in the country’s legal fraternity. He served as the 30th Attorney General of Pakistan and as President of the Supreme Court Bar Association. Mr. Malik played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s historic lawyer movement for the reinstatement of the Chief Justice, standing at the forefront of the struggle for justice and rule of law. With numerous landmark legal battles to his credit, he continues to shape the legal landscape as the head of MCA Law Associates in Karachi.

Shahzado Shaikh
Justice Shaikh, Islamic Counsellor of ISGH and former Judge of the Federal Shariat Court, has served Pakistan in senior roles including Federal Secretary, Senior Advisor to the Federal Ombudsman, and Additional Auditor General. With degrees in Defense & Strategic Studies, Chemistry, and Law, along with advanced trainings in the UK, USA, and Australia, he has taught at Rawalpindi Law College and the University of Houston Law Center, authored several books, and spoken at leading international forums. He represented Pakistan at the United Nations and chaired the negotiations that concluded the SAARC South Asian Preferential Trade Agreement. Closely involved with SIUT since its inception, he supported Dr. Adib Rizvi in transforming the original urology ward into today’s renowned institute.

Rizwan Mumtaz
Mr. Rizwan Mumtaz is in the engineering, construction, and management business with four decades of experience, has M.S. from Kansas State, and a bachelors from NED University in Karachi. He started his career with NESPAK, and later moved to Middle East where he managed iconic mega projects for over two decades. Holding CCM and ENV SP certifications, he has been working in the US since 2015 and is currently Vice President of ATANE Engineers. He has been a SIUTNA Chapter Representative for over five years and was a founding member of Institution of Engineers Pakistan Chapter in Bahrain, GCC Representative of Association of Consulting Engineers Pakistan and founding chairman of Bahrain’s Urdu Literary Society.
